Bretun
Fjordnorway is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the world. People from every
continent are attracted by the magnificant nature with grand mountains, long fjords and glacier tongues easily
accessible. Melkevoll Bretun is situated near one of the most important entrances to the national park of the
glacier Jostedalen. Our intention is for the Bretun (Glacier courtyard) to be in perfect harmony with
the surrounding nature, and we hope and wish for our guests to not only be fascinated but also enriched with
knowledge and understanding.

Welcome!
Melkevoll Bretun is a camping site and a tourist center at the end of Oldedalen. The surroundings appear to
be a big park. They are all part of the Melkevoll Courtyard which has been actuated since the middle of the 16th
century. We are the 14th generation, being in charge now. Our names are Inge and Gro Melkevoll. You'll find us among
towering mountains, stunning glaciers and sprinkling waterfalls. Starting from the reception, it takes less than
an hour to hike the world-renowned Briksdal glacier.
Camping, cabins and one-day parking lots
We can offer one-day parking lots, a camping site for campers, caravans and tents. Furthermore, we rent
holiday cabins and
camping huts.

Service building
In the main building, you can find a café, a bathroom with showers, a sauna, a camping kitchen and a room for
the laundry along with the reception. Right next to the building is the Utelada, a barn with a fireplace and
seats for 50 persons, which is the official lounge for our guests.
The Stone Age cave
You can find Norway's eldest scree to the north of the main building. Here we have an open-air arena with a
dance floor, another fireplace and benches. Next to it you can find the Stone Age cave - underneath huge rocks,
we set a venue with a fireplace in the centre.
Learning and experiencing
Living so close to the glacier, we can still find many traces in the countryside that testify to the climate changes
of the last 10,000 years. From many points of information distributed around the whole area, our guests can learn
more about these. Moreover we offer guided tours through the district where climate change is an important issue
and the the history of the glaciers becomes vivid.
