Briksdal's glacier

Hike to the Briksdal's glacier

The Briksdal's glacier is one of Norway's most visited attractions of nature. It takes about 50 minutes to walk from the Bretun to the leading edge of the glacier. First, you pass the Briksdalsbre Fjellstove which used to be a farm. The old goat house turned into a souvenir's shop; the coffee shop was extended to a restaurant with more than 500 seats. The promenade further leads through an eclectic countryside with a beautiful view across glaciers and waterfalls. The way is easily passable since farmers from Oldedalen built bridges and walls more than a 100 years ago to make it convenient for tourists to walk. Eventually you leave the National Park and arrive at the glacial lake with sheets of ice drifting slowly on the water. From where the lake diappears underneath the ice, the glacier extends across the mountain up to its plateau about 1500 metres higher.

That is a beautiful way to walk, but you can also make use of our Troll cars. These small trolleys carry up to four persons from the Briksdalsbre Fjellstove to the end of the National Park.

The Briksdal's glacier sets a lovely backdrop, if you look out of our holiday cabin's windows and for parts of our camping site.
